Have we touched some lives?

although ltb is coming to an end, the memories i had with everyone is much treasured...

the times when we laugh and cried (only pauline!), the days and nights, i guess i will remember them...

the people i encountered in this ltb....are wonderful....

i had never have so much fun working for a school project... the kids, the team, the counsellors, the prof...and the funny TA!haha...

gosh...their smiles keep flashing in my mind...

i think the kids are in camp now...left with little rong jun in sch alone....

still as mischievous, skipped class, smoke in toilet...run around in school....but no suspension!

or maybe not caught yet?

well, at least im glad that he said that he's worried that he cant do well in school....personal and truly words from his heart he told

surprise. he gave him his number last night, told me to call him when im free? hesitant ...i didnt

tonight...."dung....(log on msn) "

"hi" he said....

"y u didnt call me last nite? i was waiting, thought you will call me....."

well....what can i say.....

I THINK WE HAVE TOUCHED THEIR LIVES..............

hihihihihihihihihihihihihihihihI

Hi to everyone, hope that yesterday's meeting with Christine went well. U could tell me about it at the next meeting or probably the next LTB session. I actually forgot my username and password to access the blog hence u can see that I don't really blog that often. Well sidetracking abit, here's what I want to say.........................Now as you look back at the days when you had problems to deal with, you realised that you were so much bigger than all the small problems combined. That's life in SMU, every term u embark on seems harder and harder but eventually when u complete it, u look back and think to yourself 'Gosh!, how did I pull through?' In the insanity of your studies, never lose track of yourself and give time to other areas as well such as going back to work with NVSS (if you're really steady) or volunteer your time to a cause or something you believe in as Syvester mentioned to be a part of the network of social services, anyone game on taking up this challenge?

Wrapping Up?

Tomorrow we will be meeting Christine for perhaps the last time to discuss about the project and if we were effective in the program.

As Jerrine and Naresh mentioned about the students previously, our journey is about to wind down and yet their journey is only about to begin. Hopefully the information gathered by us will be put to good use and will impact them even further when they start next term.

We once discussed that we cannot help everyone but if we can help one person and change him, it will be wonderful. I feel that we did the best we could and the students need constant supervision which has to be done by the school because only they have the type of access required to do so.

Having said that, of course, for the more socially conscious among us and with the time to devote to social services, hopefully they will be able to carry on such projects and impact more youths. Being stressed for time myself and perhaps due to part selfishness, I am unable to do so but perhaps in the near future I will be able to be part of the wonderful network of social services.

Happy Happy

Yea....I agree with Naresh...kinda miss the project and the 8 kids...

Anyway, i think they affected us more than we affected them! haha...look at the way we imitate and behave like them now! OMG....haha...cant believe it...

Spoke to a few of them after the project compass...I'm so glad to know from V and RJ that they have gone back to school. But the sad thing is that they cant go back to class...i didnt probe into it...because i dont want them to feel that i only just want ask them to study...but i feel that V wants to go back to class because when i ask what she do in school today, she said, " nothing lor...sian.." and I ask if she just go to school and walk around, she replied and said, "ya" and that they can only return back to class next term... (i'm assuming next term is after june holidays)

I told her to wait till Christine comes to help them go back to class...but only to realise that Christine is only going over after their 1 week holiday...

Anyway, hope they receive help soon...

:)

turn back time

Its been a couple of days and looking back , i kinda miss project compass, the workshop and the students. hehe. it was challenging but indeed, worth the time and effort put into to make a difference and influence in their life's. :) see you all guys later in the evening! :)

Some Short Reflections...

We could have chosen an easier one day type of project to do. But, I am glad that we didn't and pressed on with this 4-day mentoring programme. Project Compass has been really meaningful to me.

Impacting Youths, Changing Lives
Without a doubt, we have definitely impacted the lives of the students. Life change however is not immediately seen but I hope that to hear great testimonies from the students soon.

Let's write up a detailed evaluation for Hope Centre, that they might be able to use the experience/information we have gathered the past few days to effectively continue the step-up programme.

Day 4: Sayonnara~

Oooh....today is the last day of the workshop....having mix feelings.

One part of me feeling happy that the workshop is over while the other part of me feel sad. Sad because we are going to say "bye bye" to the children....most probably wouldn't be seeing them for a long while.

I think this LTB workshop was very meaningful. Thinking back, I thought this project is going to be like some ordinary mentoring programme...nothing much to add on or be excited about...but the experience turn out to be otherwise.

I saw the reflections that my mentee wrote and drew...I was so touched...(although i'm still figuring out what she is drawing).

I think ultimately, this kids, there is still a glimpse of hope in them...a potential waiting to be ignite by people...I just hope that in the days to come, in the days without us by their side, they can lead a happier and more purposeful life.

I'm pretty sure we've impacted each of our mentee is varies degrees...and they may not express it now....but deep inside, I feel their gratitude and appreciation together to make Project Compass successful.

I cherish the moments we've spent together.

Through this workshop, I've observed that:
  1. Sylvester is a great photographer! the shots were taken beautifully...
  2. Hoying has the potential to be a great encouraging mum! haha....i think the ratatouille was a great movie to show
  3. Nick can be child like at times....see how he talks to the children and try to behave like them by squashing them at the comfy sofas!
  4. Su can be timid at times!
  5. Naresh is CUTE...hahaha and super pro in IT repair (really la, set up a shop!)
  6. Pauline is very emotional and is a great buddy....
  7. Calvin can be a great dad! haha...i see the children likes you ! potential firm and no joke daddy....

this is truly an amazing LTB project: Project Compass!

A fairytale ending to our project! We ended well and even left a few teary eyes!

I'm really glad that this week is over! No more project compass, no more travelling to nvss, no more super high energy kids to deal with. But don't get me wrong - I've enjoyed the whole workshop!

I don't know how much impact we have made on the lives of the 8 of them, but it's good enough that they have more or less enjoyed themselves throughout the 4 days and have built a good rapport with us.

They had left us totally exhausted at the end of the every session, but I'm sure we have learnt a lot through those interactions with them. We now know how to manage them better, how to get their attention, why they do certain things and so on. But most importantly, I think we've learnt not to judge them based on their backgrounds, and when we probe deep enough into their lives, realised that these students are actually just like anybody else.

Like what Joseph said today, our group is close-knitted, and yup, I agree totally. Thanks to all of you for making Project Compass a success! The friendships forged are strong. Perhaps, we have fulfilled one of the main objectives of Leadership and Team-Building!

Moments that will Last forever...

Cherish and Treasure it :)
